Stories & Letters
From a Camp Thunderbird for Boys' parent:
I can honestly not thank the Speedy & Honey Altman Camp Foundation enough for the scholarship that my son received. He is a 100% Thunderbird soul. Although camp is only 4 weeks for him, there are few days throughout the year that he doesn’t reference a story, a counselor or an experience that brought him joy at Camp Thunderbird. I can say that Camp Thunderbird has been the single most instrumental growth experience in his relatively young life. He left as one child and returned a child who was more confident in himself, more quietly self assured and more eager to try new experiences (even if it means new types of food). This year he turned from feeling like one of the younger campers, to feeling like he had established himself a bit more at camp. A big part of this was forming a different kind of relationship with the counselors. This year he really observed the counselors as role models and saw himself taking a leadership role at Thunderbird down the road.
From a Camp Thunderbird for Boys' camper:
My favorite trip at camp was the climbing trip. It was my second trip at Thunderbird. At first we went to the trip shack to prepare. After that we got on the van, the drive was six hours long, the trip was worth it. Once we got there we set up tents then we bomb-proofed. After that we went swimming in the lake. Then we went back to where our tents were. The next day we repelled from a cliff, then we climbed up. I had so much fun on this trip because there was so much to do. Thanks Speedy and Honey Scholarship Fund for giving me a great summer.
From a Camp Thunderbird for Girls' camper:
It meant so much to me to go to camp this summer. I loved everything about it. Because of Camp Thunderbird I got to experience all the fun activities I wouldn’t have at home. Camp is the only place I can waterski, and that is something that I did almost everyday. Also, and most important, without camp I would’ve never got to know all the great friends I’ve made. Some of my best friends I’ve met at camp. Thank you for making it possible for me to go.
